Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
