Approximately 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms impacted the state, producing strong winds hitting over 100 km/h.

Massive Ice Stones and Widespread Damage

Homeowners observed substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing power throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews working to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, approximately 1,000 residents in the southern state also experienced power outages after Melbourne saw its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams handled over five hundred requests for assistance across the state, mainly for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were expected to linger along much of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Tomorrow was expected to become the most rainy day, with persistent severe weather risk expected across various areas of both regions.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
